What cause tooth staining

Tooth is believed to be stained when it has become off-white. It may be yellow or gray. There are several factor causing tooth staining. Some of the factors are listed below. Some cases can be solved with teeth whitening procedure at our clinic. The cost of teeth whitening depends on the amount of staining.

Some of the factors which causes teeth staining are mentioned below

Age: There is a direct correlation between tooth colors and age. Over the year, teeth darken as a result of wear and tear and stain accumulation.

Starting color: We are all equipped with an inborn tooth color that range from yellow- brownish to greenish-gray

Transparency & thinness:All teeth show same transparency those that are opaque and thick have an advantage they appears lighter in color show more sparkle and are responsive to bleaching. Teeth that are thinness and more transparent most notably the front teeth-have less of the pigment that is necessary for bleaching. Transparency as the only condition that can not be corrected by any form of  teeth whitening.

Eating habits: The habit usual consumption of red wing coffee,tea , cola carrots, orange & other deeply colored beverage and foods cause considerable staining over the years. In addition acidic foods such as citrus fruits and vinegar contribute to enamel erosion. As a result, the surface become more transparent and more of the yellow colored dentist  shows through.

Smoking habits: Nicotine leaves brownish deposits which slowly soaks into the tooth structure and intrinsic discolored.

Drugs & chemicals:  Tetracycline usage during tooth formation procedure dark gray or brown ribbon stain which are very difficult to remove. Excessive consumption of fluoride cause fluoridesese and associated areas of white mottling.

Grinding: Most frequency caused by stress, teeth grinding  (gnashing etc.) can added to micro – cracking in the teeth and can cause the biting edges to darken.

Trauma: falls and other injuries can procedure sizable cracks in the teeth which collect large amounts of stains and debris.
